(Rattus norvegicus)
|
Also known as the Norway and brown rat, usually brownish grey in colour. This is the more common of the two main species and has been resident in Britain for nearly 300 years. Equipped with fantastic sensory attributes, prolific breeding potential and their omnivorous diet, this pest can be extremely difficult to control in urban and rural areas. Thus, the common rat is a resident of most countries in the world. A major public health pest due its' zoonosis potential, their mere presence can be disturbing and deemed unacceptable in most places. Control is easily justified in most situations.
