Characteristics: grey/black chequered slightly hairy abdomen, blackish stripes on thorax, vein bends up sharply before reaching edge of wing.

Biology: Egg–larva–pupa–adult

Egg: whitish, 1mm several batches of up to 150 on rotting materials or animal faeces, hatch 8 hours to 2 days.

Larvae: legless maggots up to 12mm long, usually develop in 1-2 weeks.

Pupae: inside reddish ovoid puparia in soil or dry area, develop 1-2 weeks.

Adults: Large red eyes, acute sense of smell.
